Some NovaLogic games may require a CD key to install. But to play on NovaWorld, they would need one regardless. They can be purchased for very cheap on eBay, Amazon or Steam (if there's a sale going on) or any other secondhand market, just make sure it's not in used condition, otherwise the CD key may have already been registered. I don't know about DFX specifically, but Joint Ops did not require one.
